Evil criminal mastermind Fu Manchu’s plan here is to not only destroy/ransom the world (I wasn’t paying attention to that bit if I’m honest) but to create an evil clone of his pesky law-abiding nemesis just so he can get executed (that’s why any secondary plan might have escaped my notice). If the point of the film was he wanted to keep him alive to make sure his plan went off without a hitch - then why not wait for word of his plans success? Once again Lee is wasted in a role that could have been culled from stock footage of the first film while everyone else capers around dodgy sets and uninteresting locations. This is the first fu Manchu film I’ve seen so I can’t comment on how it compares to others but I can only hope the other instalments are better.

Report this film. What this one has going for it is the entertaining set design, camerawork, and overall cheesiness level. The tagline for Jaws: The Revenge—“This time it’s personal”—could just as easily apply to 1967’s The Vengeance Of Fu Manchu, since his main goal is to ruin Nayland Smith’s reputation by kidnapping the daughter of a surgeon (are we sensing a pattern yet?)
