A drive further to the very small township of Coochin Creek takes you past strawberry farms, pineapples, honey and turf farms, a few houses and the creek that winds it’s way around before finally opening into the Pumicestone Passage which separates Bribie Island from the mainland. Lawnton train station is within walking distance to catch a train for appointments in the city plus BCF, Bunnings, Supercheap Auto and the Lawnton Swimming Pool are also only a short stroll away. There are signs saying no swimming in Coochin Creek. We recommend taking a look around the Lawnton Markets which are on each Saturday morning to enjoy a great Bacon & Egg burger and drink plus find a bargain.

A sandy walking track takes you out to Back Beach for a wander along the beach and to enjoy the water.

The campground is on the northern edge of Woody Head itself. Shark Bay Picnic Area and Ten Mile Beach are before reaching Woody Head Rd.
The 5 watt range will give you maximum distance, especially if you need help! There are toilets, bins and a dump point available and it is pet friendly. There’s also the football grounds to run and play and the public swimming pool is just next door. Continuing further up the beach is shared access with vehicles on Ten Mile Beach.
A longer walk starts next to the road entrance of the picnic area to the Iluka World Heritage Rainforest , another brown sign starting in the Iluka township.
The sites are very shaded with trees and therefore receive limited sun.
Some of the amenities are only for campers, for example, hot showers are not available to day visitors.
There are fire pits at each site and we had a great evening around a fire and cooking over hot coals. A mobile coffee van is also onsite with the Wandering Bean Mobile Cafe located at the entrance to the Sportsground.
The other locations are at different points along Iluka Rd. The Kershaw Gardens Free Camp is a simple space on the edge of parklands in Rockhampton. It’s only small however there are toilets and hot showers available. The park provides drinking water and BBQ’s plus it is pet friendly. We are Adele & Kevin, an Aussie couple from Brisbane in Queensland Australia who have embraced our adventurous spirit and ventured out to explore the world around us. 100 kms south of Mackay is the ocean front Carmila Beach Camping Ground. There’s access to the creek directly from the campground to throw your line out and there are also two boat ramps within a short drive from the campground for those wishing to launch their tinnie . The park features coffee rock formations that can be found on the beaches at its northern end. The Iluka Bluff Picnic Area is at the southernmost part of the park. With fewer people and more picnic tables set in shady spots, you are more likely to get a table for yourself. It caters for the same type of camping as Woody Head, with the exception of cottage and cabin options. The sites are all different sized, some are small and suited for tents, others are bigger for Campervans and Vehicles and a few are large and designed for Caravans and Motorhomes. Fire pits are located in various positions around the large campground which has 94 campsites. Black Rocks Campground is accessed further north just south of Woodburn.. The Cooroy RV Stopover is also pet friendly. There are picnic areas and camping sites to explore and enjoy the Bundjalung National Park. We had spent so much time overseas we decided it was time to see our own truly amazing country and we needed to take some time to see everything it has to offer. The Babinda Rotary Park Rest Area is a great Free camp beside the river and offer toilets, drinking water and $2 hot showers. Water is available to connect to and there are toilets and bins on site. The warmer weather in Queensland is also very attractive to those living in the southern states of Australia, especially during the winter months of the year. 4wd access is not allowed south of the entrance. Shark Bay up to the picnic area is pedestrian-only, so you can walk south along the beach to Woody Head without concern of 4wds passing you. Children 4 and under are free. You'll be able to look after the whole family as the site has all the amenities, a boat ramp, 4x4 … This idyllic location lends itself to exploring the golden beaches that stretch for mile upon unspoilt mile as you keep an eye out for the frolicking humpbacks migrating past. We found it to be quiet and peaceful and we had plenty of space around us.

It's a great place for a family holiday, with a protected sandy beach that's ideal for swimming … The Rockhampton Council have been fantastic and fought to keep this Free Camping space for travelers for the benefit of all businesses in Rockhampton and we acknowledge this and thank the Council for their wisdom and courage. Take the Roys Road exit from the Bruce Highway and follow Roys Rd to Beerwah and go through the traffic lights to the rounadbout and turn right in to Roberts Rd. There are 2 toilet blocks, a good camp kitchen, dump point and it is pet friendly. The TYTO RV Park isn’t Free but it is just $10 per vehicle and with such beautiful surroundings it sure is worth it.
