There’s also the football grounds to run and play and the public swimming pool is just next door. Continuing further up the beach is shared access with vehicles on Ten Mile Beach.

A longer walk starts next to the road entrance of the picnic area to the Iluka World Heritage Rainforest , another brown sign starting in the Iluka township.

The sites are very shaded with trees and therefore receive limited sun.

Some of the amenities are only for campers, for example, hot showers are not available to day visitors.

There are fire pits at each site and we had a great evening around a fire and cooking over hot coals. A mobile coffee van is also onsite with the Wandering Bean Mobile Cafe located at the entrance to the Sportsground.

The other locations are at different points along Iluka Rd. The Kershaw Gardens Free Camp is a simple space on the edge of parklands in Rockhampton. It’s only small however there are toilets and hot showers available. The park provides drinking water and BBQ’s plus it is pet friendly. The Iluka Bluff Picnic Area is at the southernmost part of the park. With fewer people and more picnic tables set in shady spots, you are more likely to get a table for yourself. It caters for the same type of camping as Woody Head, with the exception of cottage and cabin options. The sites are all different sized, some are small and suited for tents, others are bigger for Campervans and Vehicles and a few are large and designed for Caravans and Motorhomes.
