For what it’s worth, I got shell-shocked on essays and MPTs (3/4) during bar prep with Barbrie (the graders were brutal), and I ended up with a 152 for the writing section. To confirm my suspicions, I bought a Kaplan book of practice MBE questions off Ebay. I took the TX July 2019 Bar Exam and I passed. I took the country-wide Barbri practice MBE and scored in the top 20%.
Prepping for the bar is a singular experience, and it is a miserable one, but you can beat it if you work hard.
Obviously any practice is a good thing. i hope tomorrow is better!
Does anyone have any thoughts on how to raise my MBE score?
I feel like that. Actual: 127/200 (passed NY - overall UBE 270), New comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be cast. Congrats, btw. I was expecting the exam to kick my ass brutally so the questions I was confident on were like little morale boosters the whole way through. You just have to pass it. Does anyone feel like the video review for the simulated MBE specifically for Evidence was horrible? Bruh. How did you feel about your chances before finding out? I got a 90 so you can feel discouraged with me lol. I made the flashcards only for the MBE subjects, but I have to do them for some of the non-MBE subjects. Yes, I've been making flashcards FOREVER.
I'm considering shelling out the $50 for it but wanted to know if people thought it was worth it. Both have video reviews of all the questions broken down by subject. I'd be careful with the NCBE questions. The test is beatable.
I ended up with 113/200 and I’m not feeling too bad, especially considering where I started on some of these subjects. Bottom line: ignore Barbri's "averages."
Just work hard. Its like PTSD, 134/200. Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts. But I just took a MPQ and got 78%, which is the highest I've gotten! Also, taking care of your mental health. Thanks! I wil be so happy when I get to purge this shit from my memory.
But, I’m not a professional in it. Edit: sorry for the bummer. Ignore the progress bar too, while you're at it. Please feel free to post anything related to the hell that is bar prep!
Simulated: 105 Final: I think it was like 55 or 60 Actual MBE: they wouldn’t disclose MBE scores unless we failed but I passed the UBE with a 291. See I’m the total opposite. But, the authors of the Barbri questions also have a different writing style than the authors of the MBE. Just work hard. 119/200 for Colorado and shit myself the whole time. I was pulling ~65% correct on Barbri practice quizzes (usually blocks of 15-30 questions, usually one subject but sometimes mixed). While I haven't taken the actual bar exam, I do have a feeling that Barbri's questions are more difficult than necessary. Can't wait to eat a gummy and say adios to this anxiety. By using our Services or clicking I agree, you agree to our use of cookies. Where an actual MBE question might test you on an exception to a rule, the Barbri question will focus on the exception to the exception to the rule. Keep pushing! It's super tedious.
How to raise your score? Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts. I’m hanging on to that pre-lecture for dear life. I self graded my simulated MBE last night and have felt discouraged all day. After two months of prep for my own bar exam, I felt Barbri's questions were seemingly designed to trip the students up. This is a subreddit entirely dedicated to those in the process for studying for the Bar.
Barbri's questions are harder than the actual MBE questions, no doubt. Cookies help us deliver our Services. Highest I've gotten. Simulated 149/200; Final 100 MBE 89/100; Actual MBE 162. I feel strangely calm, which doesn’t bode well tbh. Just one of those days. For those who used Barbri in July 2019 and have already received their MBE scores, please post the following: Simulated MBE Score:/200 Final 100 MBE Score:/100 Actual MBE Score:__/200 Thank you and good luck to everyone! 61/100 = 61% - Barbri Diagnostic Exam (49% Average) 118/200 = 59% - Barbri Simulated Exam. I'm planning on going through my flashcards tomorrow and write some MEE Essays, then doing the 200 MBE Saturday. I consistently score around 68-70% on Adaptibar since I made the switch. we're almost there and things are going to work out. As a mostly corporate lit/transaction person, I confirmed I suck at crim law/pro. HOWEVER, I definitely feel nervous about ditching Barbri. No clue on the breakdown for each essay and MPT. Also my friends told me that they thought Barbri's MPQ and MBE questions are way harder then the actual bar exam. Hopefully when the lectures end there will be more time to seriously commit things to memory and fill in those weak spots. But, what was super helpful was seeing where I did the best/worst subject wise. You don't have to ace it. I didn't review the cards, just made them...then took an evidence mpq and got 16/18. I got a similar sim score, waiting on results.
I just don't know where to find the time in barbri's schedule right now and two weeks does not seem like enough time.
After two months of prep for my own bar exam, I felt Barbri's questions were seemingly designed to trip the students up. Passed by a large margin. My fellow bar preppers, the day of the sim has come and as with any other year, this is a thread to vent, discuss scores and contemplate what’s to come next. That's a hell of a score. I watched the MBE simulated exam explanation video. Just another tid bit of information to keep in mind.
Just work hard and you will prevail.

1,2, or 3? totally hear you on all of this. Got a 97, feeling discouraged, everyone in the thread did so well! Pretty much just did our lecture and wondered what the point was when we won't even finish all the NY material until the end of this week. The workshop provides just a little extra reassurance right before the bar exam. We took our simulated final exam (100 MBE questions from book initialed 'MPQ2') and I got 44 incorrect. Which set did you purchase? Where an actual MBE question might test you on an exception to a rule, the Barbri question will focus on the exception to the exception to the rule. However, you still have a lot of time. But I get it! I thought I crushed the essays/MPT and did well on the morning MBE, but the afternoon had me questioning if I got any right. Everybody hits this low point at one time or another during bar prep. I think I’ll be fine.
It is part of the experience. I wrote to Barbri for suggestions and they said just keep re-reading the Conviser. This will help you become more familiar with the complex nature of different ethical scenarios and, ultimately, the average time you can spend on each question in order to complete the exam. Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts. BARBRI MBE Mini Review is a one-day, eight-hour online workshop. I wasn't doing so great on the MPQs and when I wrote to Barbri they told me to keep studying the law before doing the 200 MBE or 100 MBE. Just need a 266 in NY. I’m sitting here with a cup of coffee just ignoring the bar exists for awhile and I don’t even feel shame. 105/200. I'm going through them. For those who used Barbri in July 2019 and have already received their MBE scores, please post the following: Simulated MBE Score:/200 Final 100 MBE Score:/100 Actual MBE Score:__/200, Final-Don’t even remember if I took it/na. I passed the bar and this thread stresses me out lmao, So much respect for still even being subbed here, that's how I feel when i read posts from 0L and 1L is in regular law school thread. Still trying to grind through but I just feel like an idiot pretty much all day long. Actual MBE: 156 scaled score (same as essay score), Actual (Raw or Scaled) MBE Score: 130.1/200.
The majority of the questions seem fair, but there are a handful that seem too esoteric and very unlikely to be on the bar. Just left the NY one. I was in their target passing range, but not by much.
I never found out my actual MBE score, but that's because I passed the exam, and Virginia only shares your score with you if you fail. New comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be cast.
I answered almost 1000 practice questions between Barbri and the Kaplan book. My MPQs and MBE scores are lower then the Barbri average. They are kind of long but the lecturers for those give you hints and tricks for each of the subjects. But I agree with whomever said it above- the Kaplan questions seem much more realistic than the BarBri questions. BARBRI MPRE Review provides four online simulated exams.
Since Barbri writes their own MBE questions and Adaptibar uses prior bar questions, I decided to ditch Barbri completely when it comes to studying for the MBE portion. I believe my Final 100 MBE was so high because I had seen many of the questions previously. I was regularly getting about 50% right on Evidence, so I turned my lecture handout into flash cards (even the rules I know by heart), supplemented with anything in the CMR that wasn't in the handout, and then made a card for every practice PRE and MBE evidence question I got wrong. Reading the outline wasn't helping me because I do it too passively I think. Barbri loves to hit us with a 3-4 hour lecture then spend 2 hours in the evening testing things we can't possibly know yet. Was convinced I failed.
I haven't done any of the long MBE questions yet. Go to "enrolled students center" then under "bar review lectures" there will be a link for "simulated MBE" and "simulated final exam." I read the answer explanation for each question. My theory is that they include those so you will miss the question, forcing you to go to the outline, read up the distinctions or elements, and pick up the nuance so you will get the larger picture. Drill, drill, drill. The other thing that I know has helped my score is to keep a running list, either at the bottom of your outline or in excel, of every question you get wrong. Barbri's questions are harder than the actual MBE questions, no doubt. I didn't take the final only the midterm. The goal was to be 118. Press J to jump to the feed. I believe that what the Bar is about is learning the law and thinking critically (meaning trying to understand why you were missing problems or missing essays).
It's very odd. How did you feel after the actual MBE? Hey, can you tell me a little bit about the NCBE questions? I don't know about way harder, but I think the practice MBEs have more "difficult" questions than the actual test does.
They are all retired questions from the entire course of the Bar Exam, so they aren't necessarily totally accurate as to what the current MBE is. Though BarBri straight up says that and I don't trust them as far as I can throw an elephant.
And put the questions in the right space, then write down the correct answer and a brief explanation as to why.
