It's game time.
Whether you’re in medicine, engineering, business or design, you can be part of the solution.
CS focuses more on mathematics and algorithms and many types of languages (way more than ECE) and the theory behind large designs of software and hardware. applying into EE is more painful than applying into CS. Incredible facilities and special attractions.
After much hard work by Xinyi Zhu and Wendy Rodriguez Ovalle, RAS would like to present the 2020-2021 Student Brochure! I also much prefer the traditional style campus of UIUC to the cramped layout of Austin. Sorry about the oddly specific questions, I just don't wanna regret going to UT/Illinois, especially after reading some of the other comments. Part of me wants to switch to CS just because of how gorgeous the new CS building is! I do regret not going to UT though. I've spoken to seniors from my school at both UIUC and UT Austin. After attending the career fairs, CS was the easy pick for me. I'm going into ECE EHP and at an event some professors were discussing new project-based classes that would be available to me, but I don't know which career would be tailored toward a "new and creative" tagline.
I got accepted as a CS Major and was wondering about changing to ECE. The weather makes a big difference to me however and the food is better at UT. We can show you around the building and answer a lot of these questions. We are developing advanced materials and devices for electronics and optoelectronics.
Longhorns are passionate about making the world a better place, united by the belief that creating and sharing knowledge can save lives and transform society.
I don't think that is the case for all people though! And it's kinda humid which makes it feel even hotter. People that say otherwise aren't properly allocating their time. That's what it comes down to tbh. Members can sign up for volunteering events, intramural sports, workshops, and other fun events throughout the year. If you want to make important decisions based on weather be my guest, but don’t try to pretend like UT Austin is somehow easier than UIUC. I have lived in both CU and in Austin and my allergies were so unbearable in Austin it was one of my deciding factors for transferring. The Laboratory for Advanced Semiconductor Epitaxy is located in the Microelectronics Research Center at the University of Texas at Austin.
It's a part of what makes it lucrative, I picked UIUC over UT Austin for accounting and don't regret it (Austin is #1 and UIUC is #2 for accounting). He was with the Bank group from Spring 2014 to Spring 2015 and worked on developing cleanroom fabrication processes for III-V optoelectronic devices.
I actually will be working at SAS (I'm a EE student) and it seems like most of their engineers are rather young. My boyfriend is in engineering here and it seems like his school work is written in a foreign language/I feel bad for him on a regular basis, but you're only going to go through the college thing once might as well go to the best school that lets you in. I need some advice regarding ECE vs. CS.
I have gone to UT Austin and would say that the difference in the ECE department in Texas Austin is that they go more in depth into certain topics but UIUC is a lot more cohesive and structured despite the focus on the breadth of the topics. Access to 600+ graduate students across 9 diverse tracks. Obviously a rigorous program is better, but only if you manage to not mess it up. on the contrary to /u/bricon5's answer, I would say my EE classes have been much harder than my CS classes (but that may just be a personal thing since i enjoy coding much more and enjoy most of my coding projects not as work). We aren't that similar. I guess a good way of looking at this would be to say... "what do i want to do in a job/after school". Finally, Illinois was probably in better shape as a state when I applied versus now. if you'll be here until sunday, PLEASE PM ME NOW, and I can meet with you to show you the building! CS barely touches the surface of hardware, and I don't see that changing. I had the same thing happening to me. I'm going to be interning in Las Vegas for the summer, which is something I doubt I could have the pleasure of doing in EE.

Do you think the curriculum at UT Austin would put me at any real disadvantage? Both majors can be tough but if you enjoy the subject, you will be fine since you enjoy learning more about it. I'm visiting Austin right now (will be here until Sunday). Texas ECE hosted an inclusivity roundtable on September 2 to take a look at the demographics of our current student body and brainstorm ways that we can build a more inclusive and welcoming community. But at UT you get unbearably hot from August to October, them again from late March until May. industry events, and provide a voice to the administration on behalf of students' needs. I'm in the same situation as you, just reversed. You will learn how low level machine languages work, then how computer architecture works, and then once you get to your upper level track stuff you can take software classes. We’re attacking these and other problems with the urgency they deserve. We say, “What starts here changes the world.”. Stay up to date with the research at UT Austin ECE. GRaduatE ECE (GREECE) serves to foster a sense of community within the UT Graduate ECE department. I don't regret my decision (or at least that's what I tell myself haha).

Come explore our vast research enterprise — or better yet, create, innovate and discover with us. I started off as an ECE and added my CS major near the end of 1st year. At UT you have Austin, UIUC has Champaign, which isn't nearly as big but still provider entertainment. From what I've gathered, UIUC ECE is much more rigorous(insane might be the wrong word), but the guys at UT can afford to take it easier. Hey! Strange question, but which major would you consider more entrepreneurial? For example, there was an embedded systems class in UT Austin that most students take in freshman year 2nd semester that covered a lot of fun things like C-coding and microcontroller type stuff but you would never really learn how to code C or C++ properly as well as learning it here in UIUC so a lot of what we learned and did was done haphazardly. You will have internships at places like Dell, National Instruments, AMD, Intel, etc. If you want to focus on software, you can avoid the EE part. When you place that in America’s No. Finally fill out the safety waiver here only if you have never filled it out before. This subreddit is for anyone/anything related to UIUC. ECE is simpler nowadays.
Est blanditiis dolorem culpa incidunt minus dignissimos deserunt repellat aperiam quasi sunt officia expedita beatae cupiditate, maiores repudiandae, nostrum, reiciendis facere nemo! What companies did you go and talk to at the fair for EEs? Since 1997, from our primary residence in UT's Electrical and Computer Engineering department, we have connected undergraduate students from mechanical, electrical, aerospace, computer, and other engineering (and non-engineering) fields. If you want to focus solely in hardware, you can avoid software classes. Remember that college is only 4 years, but your career is the rest of your life. I can also maybe squeeze you in for the whole tour :) (advisor meeting, lunch, building tour, sitting in on a class...). I might see "old and stifling" and you might see "stable and reliable."
The campus is a lot nicer than U of I and the weather is obviously a lot better, but I would advise you to come to U of I just because of how highly ranked engineering is at UIUC. How easy will it be to switch from ECE to CS before I start at UT?
