They're a great team. I don't know that I'd enjoy this movie in New York or San Francisco, but in rural West Virginia it was absolutely hilarious. It was good fun, but nothing compared to Anchorman.
A bit of a mess, but it is a genial mess, and one that will make you laugh. I will be the guy in the front of the line waiting to get my ticket to see this movie again. Or, to put it differently: this movie is the real thing. Ricky Bobbie was such an ego driven slimeball that I could find no sympathy for him.

Ferrell is in full-on brazen redneck mode, doing a variation on his "Saturday Night Live" George W. Bush impression. And then the fun skids to a stop. Will Ferrell does chicken-fried comedy right: with crackpot discipline and stripped-to-the-beer-belly courage. They've interspersed laugh-out-loud segments with dry, repetitive material.

For the first half-hour or so, this thing works like white lightning. Not only is this movie an above-average sports movie (it even concludes with a big race and a warm and fuzzy winner! I think we all know the answer to this one when it comes to Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. Ferrell's shtick never grows tiresome, because it's constantly changing. Hilarious... if it hasn't gone over your head, which it clearly has for some reviewers here. So please, if you're that easily offended, next time you wanna rent a movie, for all out sakes, DON'T pick up a comedy. The gay French Formula 1 driver really makes a bad film worse. Simultaneously teasing and loving a subject doesn't make for easy comedy, but writer-star Will Ferrell and director/co-writer Adam McKay pull it off with good-ol'-boy good nature in Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. You just get to laugh a lot too. When Cohen and Ferrell are eyeing each other, you never saw a loopier pair. It's eatin' good in the neighborhood. The scene where they are saying grace around the table will, in my opinion, go down as one of the funniest scenes ever. Talladega Nights may be brash, unbridled, even unhinged, but its cornpone humor is rich in parody, and its craftsmanship is superb -- smart writing, shrewd direction, precisely calibrated performances (whether the calibration calls for delicacy or broad-gauge burlesque), inventive language, inspired silliness and all-but-flawless timing. priceless comedy. I rank this movie right up there with other will Farrell greats like Old School, Wedding Crashers and Anchorman. Funnier. This movie does something that is rarely done successfully done, pokes fun at the modern NASCAR circuit. An affable entertainment, both a celebration and a satire of lowbrow pleasures. Can Ricky make him surrender? Ferrel has a high budget and one of the best supporting casts of the year to work with but he doesn't take advantage of what he is given. GEEZ! This is a very funny film. In addition to the hilarious red-neck "dynamic duo" of Ferrell and John C. Reily, you'll love Sacha Cohen's character, the gay French racer Jean Girard. I saw it for free at a screening in LA, and I must say that I expected it to be a rental-worthy "dumb comedy"... one of those so-stupid-it's-funny flicks that I wouldn't have paid to see at the theater. This movies sucks....period. Without detailing all the gags, this is pure fun which doesn't offend the tastes too often.
There is not one scene with Cohen in it that isn't funny. You could tell Will Ferrell and Sacha Cohen (aka Ali G) and John C. Reilly all had the opportunity to improvise lines and riff on one another, and all three were pretty good.
It's the King of Beers. I very rarely laugh out loud during movies (and the friend that I was with says the same thing), but we were both cracking up almost the whole time!!! It’s no different for their film, Talladega Nights. It's eatin' good in the neighborhood.
Reilly can play nuts, too, and in a lower gear that reins Ferrell in. It just goes to show you don't have to be talented, smart, or funny to be successful in Hollywood. In fact, the entire cast including John C. Reilly seems to have been fit into their roles like gloves. Ferrel can actually write a decent screenplay too bad he adds bits and pieces of nonsense when he could explore his characters a little more. I liked this movie a LOT. It's the King of Beers.

I got into this movie for free because I know someone at the theater, thank god! This movie is a perfect example of how the end of the world is near. It became so bogged down trying to parody all the characters that it lost direction. The races are scorchingly shot, and they lend the movie a zest. He's not. All I had to do was listen to the reaction of the sold out theater I was in and I knew that most people will find this movie to be very funny.
The comedy and chemistry was excellent in that film, and even with the really lame material, made the film work in so many ways. While not necessarily being a better film than Anchorman, it still ranks as a very positive improvement from the rest of the films Ferrell has been doing as of late.
