One of your two HASS subjects should be designated as Communication Intensive (CI‑H or CI‑HW). Students are allowed to petition for changes to their degree requirements. These subjects are intended to provide students with foundational knowledge that will serve students well not only immediately after graduation but throughout the next decade. To stay on pace, we recommend that you take one HASS subject each semester during your four years at MIT.

The HASS Requirement provides you with opportunities to deepen your knowledge in a variety of cultural and disciplinary areas, practice critical thinking, and develop vital skills while trying something new. Doctoral Degrees. The Requirement includes four Communication Intensive (CI) subjects over the course of your four years as an MIT undergraduate. Again, one of these two HASS subjects should be Communication Intensive. As students select their various Foundation, Header, and Advanced Undergraduate Subjects, they are also subject to various constraints.
