Zhongde Taoist Temple was built before 1662, and originally located to the west of #Kulangsu, where the west slope of the north branch of Hen Hill met the small river.
The settlement created did not only mirror the various influences settlers brought with them from their places of origin or previous residence but it synthesized a new hybrid style – the so-called Amoy Deco Style, which developed in Kulangsu and exerted influences over a far wider region in South-east Asian coastal areas and beyond. The view from Sunlight Rock gives the best perspective on why so many people call Kulangsu China's own Mediterranean Island. As a well-known tourism destination for visitors in and outside China, Kulangsu enjoys many titles as a great resort. The fusion of cultures resulted in a new architectural style: the Amoy Deco Style, which originated on Kulangsu and this is where the best representations of it can be found such as the Hongning Hospital and the Yanping Complex.
