Whether acute injury or chronic pain resulting from congenital, traumatic, or age-related causes, pain can be reduced by improving stability and mobility of the affected areas. Each week focuses on a different group of asanas: standing, forward extensions, twists and backbends, and restoratives. The perfect choice for students new to yoga, the Iyengar method, or those who want a strong foundation for their practice. Those new to yoga are encouraged to begin with an Iyengar 1 class or take the Basics Series regardless of their fitness experience. Iyengar Yoga Sarasota is committed to the purity, excellence and high standards of the B.K.S Iyengar teaching method. The well-qualified teacher will provide a clear demonstration and explanation and individual correction and adjustment when necessary. That means you can walk into any Iyengar class and fit in immediately.
Iyengar yoga teachers are well qualified and experienced in helping each student to find their own level in each pose. Standing poses form the foundation before moving on to more advanced postures and need to be studied continuously, even when you’ve mastered the most advanced poses. All students with a foundation in Iyengar Yoga can attend. For students who have a foundation of Iyengar Yoga or have completed the Introduction series.

Together with Pattabhi Jois (who developed Ashtanga yoga) they were partly responsible for bringing the practice of modern yoga, as we know it now, to the West. For those new to Iyengar yoga, we can provide prenatal classes for groups of 7 or more.
A variety of asanas are included, and the sequence changes every week. Props are useful here to make each pose accessible to all. Injury, poor posture, or gait complications can wear the knee joint to the point of discomfort and/or pain. He taught for over 75 years in all five continents, making yoga accessible and relevant to people everywhere. In this class we work to re-educate your knees (and your brain) on how to sit, stand, and move to enhance proper functioning of the knee and surrounding joints.
